Accountant needed for our education client in Baltimore City.    The Accountant will perform complex accounting functions while having a thorough understanding of state and federal policies, procedures and restrictions as it relates to Public Higher education.

Essential Duties:

  • Serves as support to the Controller’s Office accounting unit by performing monthly account reconciliations and account analysis to include the following: Revenue / Expense reconciliation of People Soft and R*Stars; Perkins Loan Activity reconciliation; Cash Deposit reconciliation; Clearing Account Reconciliations; Balance Sheet account reconciliations including cash; Working Fund account reconciliation and others as required.

  • Prepares recurring monthly and quarterly journal entries for posting, such as those related to funds distributions and allocations. Researches, identifies and post revenue transactions received via R*Stars.

  • Trains to become the department’s super user for People Soft Financials and R*Stars (State Accounting System), in order to facilitate the researching, reporting and processing of financial data. Will function to provide customer service and support to University management, faculty and staff by responding to questions, and providing financial information and necessary reports.

  • Performs activities to assist Senior Accountant and Assistant Controller with month-end and year-end closing processes and preparation of required journals, schedules and reports. Will assist with preparation of Interim and Year-end Financial Statements and required closing schedules.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience in public Higher Ed accounting office or as Higher Ed financial or compliance auditor

    • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials

    • Experience with State of Maryland accounting system “RSTARS”.

    • Understanding and/or experience in preparation of or audit of Financial Statements.

    • Master’s Degree in Accounting or CPA.
    • Understanding and/or experience in preparation of audit of Financial Statements.
